Searches with much peril: how to defend
A recent McAfee report about the safety of Internet search says that a high percentage of the results to popular searches lead to dangerous web pages. Using a metaphor, it's like scammers and virus writers release their "hooks" in the areas of greatest "fishing."

Up to 12.6% of search results in Spanish, according to McAfee's report, constitute an information risk. Lurking threats are many, ranging from viruses and spyware to identity theft (phishing) and aggressive advertising. To make your searches more secure, we recommend a series of programs, browser extensions, and free websites to help you identify dangerous sites.
Only now starting to filter their search engine results to detect hazardous content. Google, for example, uses data StopBadwareAnd the same bar includes a gauge of risk. These mechanisms, however, are not always reliable. The perfect filter does not exist (there is always unclassified pages), but most do not reach your eyes if you have the support of updated databases.
Web of Trust (WOT)
WOT is the acronym for which is known Web of Trust, A community dedicated to classify web pages according to a set of parameters, such as vendor reliability, privacy or content type. Users also can add their own comments. WOT has extensions Firefox e Internet Explorer.
WOT is not only translated into several languages, but it looks very nice
WOT en los resultadosThe results of a dozen popular search engines, add your own graphics WOT colored. The colored circles indicate at once the reliability of the site before clicking on it. If you hold your mouse over the icon, a floating box displays a summary of the security parameters. Your biggest problem? That does not provide reliable data about malware and viruses.
Norton Safe Web, McAfee SiteAdvisor and AVG LinkScanner
The most popular antivirus houses are not standing still. In addition to integrating the detection of malicious pages in productsOffer free sites and extensions for detecting viruses and malware. Norton Safe Web is a search engine that simply list the incidents detected by users when browsing certain pages
Norton Safe Web
Unfortunately no extension for web browsers and do not qualify like other content. More complete and interesting is McAfee SiteAdvisor, a free available Firefox e Internet Explorer. McAfee SiteAdvisor also choose to use a color-coded traffic light to warn about the safety of search results:
McAfee SiteAdvisor en Google McAfee SiteAdvisor summarizes the most relevant data in a colored bubble
It also integrates into the status bar with a search field on Yahoo and a button that opens up a full report of the current page. The information provided is quite complete, but not the easiest to interpret, due to a somewhat odd nomenclature (Download green, red sites, Etc.). Very similar is AVG LinkScanner, Also free:
Resultados filtrados por AVG LinkScanner The floating box AVG LinkScanner provides much information
AVG LinkScanner is fast, ranks results with a color code and is compatible with Firefox, Internet Explorer and Opera. Has the disadvantage of supporting only a handful of search engines (like Google and Live). On the other hand, the resident module, accessible from the taskbar, is responsible for obtaining updates on dangerous sites, blocking them if you try to access them. All these events are stored in a file.
PhishTank and OpenDNS
Focused exclusively on phishing, PhishTank is a database of suspicious sites reported by users. Do not check the content type or the presence of virus, limited to data theft and electronic identities.
Pagina principal de PhishTank The table shows results of PhishTank if the pages are still active or not
The interesting thing is that it integrates PhishTank in the OpenDNS content filtering, fast DNS service which we have spoken another time. If you use OpenDNS servers, you ensure that these pages are filtered even before reaching your browser.
